Well, technically it *is* a great ad: you notice it, you remember it, and you remember what product it was for. Quite unlike the Popeye the Sailor character, who started as an ad for canned spinach, or the “Juanita Banana” song (ripped off Verdi’s Nabucco), which was started as an ad for bananas from the West Indies. In both these cases, in the collective mind the ad subject took over the ad’s object.
You remember it, you remember what product is was for, and you gag whenever you think of it. It’s kind of like having Carrot Top as your company spokesperson.
