How cool is this kid’s mom, really.
A British Columbia mom (a fellow Canuck – right on) known simply as Vera on her Baking Obsession blog created this awesome masterpiece at the request of her son.
Every part of the sweet sculpture can be eaten, with the exception of the eyes, but her son loved it so much that he wouldn’t let anyone take a bit of it.
Although her son wouldn’t let anyone take a bite of the cake sculpture, all of the parts with the exception of the Swarovsky crystal eyes can be consumed. For the base, she used four 13 x 18-inch sheet chocolate sheet cakes that had been soaked in strawberry syrup and then sandwiched around 5 pounds of strawberry ganache. Alduin himself is made out of modeling chocolate at his core, with his scales and horns made of gum paste. Vera made use of the ever-popular fondant combined with more gum paste to create the double-sided wings, creating the illusion that the monster is ready to leap into the air.
To finish her creation off, Vera used an airbrush to color Alduin in as realistic a manner as she could accomplish.
This is going to be one hard cake for anyone to beat but for the rest of us we’ll just have to be happy with these images of her craftsmanship.
