Windows 8 Up For Pre-Order From Amazon – With Caveats

One of the most momentous moments in the history of Microsoft is due to hit on October 26, 2012, when the next version of the Windows operating system is going to be made available to the general public to purchase; and then in some cases start to pull out their hair.

Amazon has the pre-order page up for buying your copy of Microsoft’s riskiest bet ever but there are a couple of caveats you should be aware of.

First off Amazon will be offering only the physical media of Windows 8 (hopefully they will also be adding just a digital download version) for purchase.

Second the offer is only available for residents of the United States.

If both those caveats are something that you can deal with you can pre-order Windows 8 for $69.99 and have it shipped as soon as it hits Amazon shelves.

Having trouble determining if it’s an upgrade or a full version. I don’t buy upgrades, PITA to do clean installs.

Bill the only way to get a “Full Install” is via the OEM/Machine Builder physical media CD (32/64) – everything else will be the ‘upgrade’

Now to ease the pain a little I have been reading and listening to some of the more respected Microsoft bloggers and from what I understand the “upgrade” will be one of the best that Microsoft has had and will upgrade all the way back to XP – although each version upgrade path will dictate how full of an upgrade it will be.

Normally I am with you and look to do the full clean, wipe, and install the new OS but in this case I am going to be going the upgrade path as soon as I can get my hands on the downloadable install package.
