Word is starting to trickle out about what we can expect as Microsoft gets ready to start making the first service pack for Windows 7 available. As usual they will be releasing a beta of SP1 for the more adventurous to play with but I got to admit where I would have once jumped on something like this as fast as I could I am more than a little reluctant this time around.
However for those of you who are chomping at the but you might want to check to make sure you’ll have enough space to download and install the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Beta. To help Mire_Bat at Codename Windows has put together some info about what you will need space wise.
Using Windows Update
Using the automatic Windows Update option will require the least amount of space and is the recommended way for installing SP1 Beta. For the 32-bit (x86-based) you will need 600 MB whereas for the 64-bit (x64-based) you will need 900 MB of free space.
Downloaded SP1 Beta
If you don’t like the idea of using Windows Update you will be able to download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Beta from the Microsoft site when it is available. Installing SP1 Beta this way will require more space with the 32-bit (x86-based) install needing 1.8GB and the 64-bit (x64-based) install requiring 3.3 GB of free space.
