There’s more than a few tweaking programs or registry edit tips out there to add the option of opening the selected folder (directory) in Explorer within the Command Prompt window but there is a much simpler way to do this in Windows 7 (and apparently Vista as well).
Here is the standard Explorer right click menu

Well, close to standard anyway as the ATI control panel option is available on my system. Now to add the menu option to open the selected folder in the Command Prompt window all you have to do is go Shift + Right Click and you’ll see the new menu item.

Select the Open command window here menu option and you will have a Command Prompt window ready to work in.

Simple stuff

LikeYou can install Gabriele Ponti's "SendTo Toy" (http://www.gabrieleponti.com/software/). It adds the "command prompt" item to the right-click menu, in addition to several useful items to the "send to" sub-menu. It works in all the versions of Windows I've tried (up to and including Windows 7 64-bits).
