When the new Wave 4 roll-out of Windows Live began the one part of the package that got the most attention, and deservedly so, was the revamped and social Live Messenger. There was only one problem – there was no Twitter integration which caused more than a few people to go WTH.
After all it was there in the prior version but for some reason it was missing from all those social services that you could connect to in the new Live Messenger. Well Kip Kniskern at LiveSide has the low-down on the why and wherefore and it wasn’t Microsoft’s fault.
This is the email that went out to Windows Live users who did have Twitter added at one point.
Dear Windows Live Customer,
Thank you for connecting your social networks and other services with Windows Live. We are contacting you because you have added your Twitter feed to Windows Live and we want to notify you of an upcoming change.
Beginning June 30, 2010 your tweets will no longer be automatically imported from Twitter and shared out to your Windows Live Messenger friends due to policy changes made by Twitter. We are working hard with Twitter to make this service available again and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
We remain focused on making Hotmail, Messenger, and your PC with Windows great companions to social networks and other services. This change has no impact on your ability to connect Windows Live with our other 75+ other social networks and other service partners, which include Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Flickr, and more.
Sincerely,
The Windows Live Team
Hopefully they do get it back up and running because as much as we may all cringe at the thought the reality is that Twitter connectivity is essential to any social network.

Since the change, Big things really happened. I can't update things on real-time, coz that includes Earthquakes, warnings and other things that i feel are very important for everyone who follow me and my friends to know. And since it can't be updated, I still run Windows Live Messenger on startup but i forgot it in 4 months that i didn't update even once. Being able to update my status on Twitter visa Windows Live Messenger is very helpful as i don't need to open my browser on, type the twitter site and type what i needed to say.

Likei would think that twitter would want as much exposure as possible. i often only use my windows live account to check all other social network activity and find that i do not use twitter as much due to not having any connectivity to my messanger account. :(

LikeI was just about to add "good old Microsoft" again, but actually Twitter changed their policies, surprising really as I would have thought a modern social media marketing based company would want as much coverage as possible, and not start closing loopholes like this! Regards Rob
