Thanks to the never ending vigilance of Alex Wilhelm at The Next Web we learned that as of July 12, 2011 Microsoft will be no longer offering support for Vista with Service Pack 1 installed. This means no more security related updates but if you insist on running Vista you will be advised to upgrade to Service Pack 2 so that you will still have some sort of support.

However that won’t last long as support for all versions of Vista will cease in April 2012 and unlike XP I doubt there will be any reprieves, especially with Windows 8 just around the courner.

That said .. why is anyone in their right mind even still using Vista since any machine that will run that hog of an OS will scream with Windows 7 installed.
