A Great Looking App From NASA Lets You Be A Martian On Windows 8 - Winextra
It has been interesting watching NASA as it tries to deal with how it does its job of exploring space and making it interesting to both the young and old alike in a time when they are facing constant budget cuts and waning political will to expand our knowledge beyond our planet.
One of the things that NASA has been doing, and very well, is using social media to cover all the exciting things they are doing; but one of their missions has always been to educate the public about their discoveries and this means using any platform available to them – including Windows 8.
And boy have they done a great job with their Be A Martian app.
We all know that NASAS produces some of the most beautiful images about space and other planets, and they bring that to Be A Martian with a really well done
Metro Microsoft Design Language interface that lets you explore, and stay up to date, with the current and past missions to the red planet.
As you scroll through the main screen you will find the following sections:
- Updates on Curiosity
- Mars Science Laboratory
- Mars Rovers – Spirit and Opportunity
- Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
- Mars Odyssey
- Phoenix Lander
- Pathfinder Lander
- Viking 1 & 2
- Latest Images
- Mars 3D
- On Mars
- Mars As Art
- What’s New
- All About Mars
- Mars In A Minute

This is one of those perfect type of apps that can appeal to both adults as well as being a great teaching tools for kids interested in space and NASA.
I have no problem recommending Be A Martion from NASA to anyone running Windows 8, with or without kids, and you can find it in the Windows Store in the Educational Section, or by clicking on the Search in the Charm Bar, entering NASA, and clicking on the Store option at which point you will get a list of this and other NASA apps that are available.
