Would Apple Ever Consider (Seriously) On Giving Up On The Desktop?
While I am not an Apple consumer I still appreciate their contribution to the tech world but one has to wonder given the attention that the company has been focusing on the mobile world (including laptops) and its store whether it has lost interest in the desktop arena.
There are a couple of things that makes one wonder with the most recent being the earnings call today that showed that the Mac line of desktop computers only accounted for 3% of the company’s overall earnings. In fact one could almost suggest that it is taking the place of the Apple TV as the company’s “hobby” product.
The other curious thing is that Apple’s product announcements (events) have all been centered around the iPhone, iPad, and the MacBook laptops – not a word has been breathed about the Mac desktop in a long time.
In fact it has been 821 days since the desktop line has seen a product upgrade.
Even the iMac, which saw a big upgrade in the most recent product announcement, had to wait 539 days to get that upgrade.
So the question remains – could Apple give up on the desktop and if they did what would the repercussions be?
