This just came across my Twitter feed courtesy of @microsoft and @thurrott on Twitter and ya, it’s cute and all that but seriously Microsoft I think this whole Scroogled thing is getting just a tad ridiculous.
Microsoft has a bit of history when it comes to fighting cyber criminals, everything from the script kiddies to pedoephiles who use the Internet for their sick crimes. Its PhotoDNA software is used by agencies like The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children but they are equally adept at tracking and shutting down things like botnets.
For much of my twenty plus years of working with computers I have been a Microsoft user, from DOS to Windows and just about every version of those operating systems. Of course much the early years were spent as a programmer and sometime web developer. Talk to me of Clarion, Visual Basic, ASP, or .NET and I’ve been down that road.
Personally I think the whole ‘badges’ thing is really silly. Like come on what is the purpose of some digital sticker that in the end means absolutely nothing. I have never really understood the idea of gamification of everything we do and awarding us with something so pointless.
One of the biggest horse races right now in the tech industry is the up for grabs job of being Microsoft’s next CEO. Names being bandied about are Alan Mulally, currently Ford’s CEO but rumored to be “retiring” soon, Tony Banks, head of Microsoft’s Skype, Satya Nadella head of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, and finally Stephen Elop, who helped bring Nokia into the Microsoft fold.
When Microsoft first announced the Xbox One they made a lot about it for watching movies and television, which highly irritated gamers out there but the fact is that this is the next big frontier for not just the Xbox but all consoles.
Microsoft gets a lot of flack when it comes to marketing and the ads it runs for its products, and yes most of the time the derision is well deserved, however the Xbox always seem to be the exception.
