Personally I really love the MetroUI that we are seeing more and more of when it comes to Microsoft products, such as on the Zune HD, in the Zune Desktop 4.0, and of course in the upcoming Windows Phone 7.
In fact I like it so much I decided that I wanted WinExtra to get a re-design that would hopefully be a good example of what the MetroUI could look like on a blog. It is also another way for us to stand apart from the many other tech related blogs out there.
I would also like to take a moment and give any newcomers to WinExtra an idea of what this blog is all about. Except that is probably just as easy to tell you what we aren’t about.
If it is news or information about Twitter, Facebook or any other of that social media stuff inundating the tech blogosphere but doesn’t impact Microsoft or its products like Windows then you will not find it here.
WinExtra is all about Microsoft and its Windows platform, regardless of where you find it. That doesn’t mean that we are going to be all warm and fuzzy about the company or products. If anything we will hold the company’s feet to the fire harder than anyone but it will be done fairly.
You can follow us on Twitter (@WinExtra) and on Facebook at our Fan Page (thanks for setting that up Paul), or you can join automatically by liking WinExtra in the sidebar Facebook widget on the right side of the blog. Plus don’t forget about our RSS feed.

It's purely a matter of personal taste, of course, but I'm not thrilled by the "Metro" look. The too-bright background probably has something to do with it, as well as the fact that light-gray and light-blue captions on bright white are harder to read than they were in the previous style.

LikeI'm not so sure. I find the text be quite readable and think that the brightness isn't a problem ad would be far less noticeable if the sidebar text and "leave a comment" text were every so slightly darker. I do actually see a difference between my machines with older screens than the newer brighter more advanced screens. On the newer screes it text looks sweet and very readable. Older screens especially could benefit from a slight darkening of the sidebar text.... Just my 2 cents. :)

LikeI'm using a 2-year-old HP LCD monitor, but I'm also using 65-yo eyes. That probably has something to do with it… ;)
