Live Streaming Of The Earth From The International Space Station Coming Soon
Coming in 2013 – a live feed from the ISS of our world spinning below it as an HD camera, developed by Canadian company UrtheCast (Yay!), will be mounted to the underside of the of the space station.
Russian cosmonauts are currently being trained on mounting the devices when they are sent up in the next couple of months and once in place the one camera will be fixed in place while the other will be able to swivel so that it can be pointed to specific locations.
UrtheCast claims that the cameras will have a 3.3ft per pixel resolution which will make them comparable to most of the satellite images you have seen, like the images on Google Earth.
There are plans by the company for a developer API to be made available so that we can apps that will be able to utilize the images from the cameras.
