Never Mind The Joystick, How About A Thought Controlled Quadrotor? [Video]
We knew the day was coming folks but I don’t think we all realized just how close it was. I am of course talking about thought controlled flight and now thanks to some researchers at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou in China we now are capable of controlling a quadrotor with our minds.
While the commands are currently only limited to the kind of brain activity the scientists can detect those that they do pick up can be used to make the quadrotor move. They do using the Emotiv, an EEG headset that’s already on the market, and then utilizing the following commands: ‘left hard’ to lift off the ground, clenched teeth to make it decend, thinking ‘push’ to fly upwards, ‘right’ to go forward, ‘left’ to turn clockwise, and blinking four times to make the quadrotor take a picture.
Tight now there is a computer still in the mix as the Emotiv sends the commands to a computer by Bluetooth which then relays it to the quadrotor. The system is to be shown in September at the Ubiquitous Computing Conference in Pittsburgh.
