Where to start?
WinExtra has actually been around for going on 10 years now but in that time it has seen many incarnations of its identity, or in some cases a lack of one. It first started out as t he domain used for for a set of NNTP newsgroups that I set up as a refuge for a whole bunch of great folks when our regualr haunt was taken offline in a snitfit by the owner.
From that point it has gone on to change from a NNTP server to a web forum community and then on top of all of that most recently was added the WinExtra blog. When I first started the blog it was geared more towards the Windows crowd and the forum community members; but as time went by my interests started centering around what became known as Social Media, to the point that the main purpose of WinExtra kind of got lost in the shuffle.
There came a point though when I realized that the identity, or brand if you will, that was suppose to be WinExtra didn’t suit my interest in Social Media so I decided that the time had come to basically spin off my Social Media writings onto a blog of its own. This is how Shooting at Bubbles came about and the content that had been at WinExtra was moved to its new home.
I also realized that being the jack of all trades that I am my interest in Microsoft, Windows and things related to those two thing was still something that I want to be able to write about. I also knew that the proper place for that wiriting would be WinExtra. So while the redirect did its thing over the next few months I started putting together my ideas of what the relaunch of WinExtra would be and where I would try to concentrate my efforts here.
There will be four direct areas covered by the new WinExtra, those being: Microsoft the company, Windows the operating system, Windows related tips and hints, and some software reviews thrown in for good measure.
While I will try to have fresh content up daily there will be time where that might not be possible. However I will be trying to recruit some of the forum community members to maybe chip in some of their time and help.
I hope you like the new relaunched version of WinExtra and I’ll do my best to bring you the interesting news when it comes to Microsoft and Windows.
