Didn’t think so, but here I am. Your long lost Software Review writer. I had a spot of financial trouble that necessitated being offline for a few weeks, but I’ve got that squared away for the moment, and the reviews are to resume.
That in mind, I’d be interested in some input from the readers. What software would you like to see reviewed? Anything you’ve had an eye on, but weren’t ready to bite the bag and jump in? Let me trash one of MY machines for you! Let us know! The only qualifications:
- Freeware or shareware is preferred. Software that must be purchased before use will be considered, but no promises.
- Trial versions with time-limitations are fine, so long as they’re not crippled. Best example is the mal-ware scanners that happily tell you what’s wrong with your machine, then ask for $29.95 to do anything about it. I’m certainly not going to learn anything about the effectiveness of the software if I don’t get to see it work, eh?
So, if you’ve got a program in mind, or even a genre of software (like the media player reviews) leave a comment or drop Steven or myself an email!!

Bill did a review of Ashampoo Burning suite and in both our estimations their product is one of the best on the market. Their burning suite offers some really well thought out features with an extremely easy to use interface. That said we'll see if we can look at more of the bigger brand name products but that will be left up to Bill to decide ultimately.

Joe and I communicated via email, and as I told him, while I am still impressed with Ashampoo, a comparison-type review among other programs might be a great idea.

I meant to comment earlier, and just finally got back to it. I don't know if you've ever taken a look at timesnapper, but it's the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. I can't say I've never tried it – quite the opposite. It's kind of obscure, but I had a need for it some time back when I was trying to track billable hours. It just really impressed me as being a simple idea extremely well executed. Might be worth a look.
