The First Look Behind The Scenes Of SyFy’s Grand Experiment – Defiance [Video]
Back last year there was a lot of talk about the idea of taking Stephen King’s Dark Tower series and turning it into a television series and movie series that would be dependent on each other. As it turns out the idea has stalled but it seems that SyFy has a really interesting project in the works that is very similar in the concept of a show being carried across different platforms.
Called Defiance it is both a television series and a MMO video game. What is interesting is the two different platforms will interact with what happens in the television aspect of the series will affect the online video game and vice versa.
The television series will follow the survivors of an alien invasion in a small frontier town, supposedly built on the ashes of St. Louis, while the online game will center around another town on the west coast.
Here’s the official description:
Set in the near future, Defiance introduces players and viewers to a completely transformed planet Earth, inhabited by the disparate survivors of a universal war who endeavor to build a new society among the devastation. The game combines the intense action of a AAA console shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Because they exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story ofDefiance.
Defiance stars Grant Bowler (True Blood), Julie Benz (Dexter), Jaime Murray (Warehouse 13), Tony Curran (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Blade II), Stephanie Leonidas (Mirrormask, BBC’s Dracula), and Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves), plus recent additions Mia Kirshner (Not Another Teen Movie, 24) and Fionnula Flanagan (Lost) as fascinating characters whom you’ll get to meet in the game.
Here is the behind the scene video of the show.
And here is the video game side of the series.
