The wait is over.
One of the things that people have been waiting for when it comes to Windows Phone 7 has been the hook-up with Xbox Live. Questions about titles and quality of game play have abounded as information has slowly dribbled out from developers working with dev handset and from Microsoft itself.
Well the waiting is over as Engadget had a great post out early this morning detailing what we can actually expect once Windows Phone 7 hits the shelves. First up is a list of the game titles that will be available on launch day, 60 in total, which will include:
- Castlevania
- Halo: Waypoint
- Star Wars
- Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst
- Guitar Hero
- ilomilo
- Rocket Riot
- The Harvest
- Bejeweled
- Max and the Magic Marker
- Uno
Unfortunately, as Joshua Topolsky wrote in his post there will be no real-time multi-player beyond turn-based gaming but it is something that Microsoft will be implementing as soon as it can after launch.
After all is said and done Joel came away feeling pretty good about the gaming aspect of Windows Phone 7.
All in all, it’s a promising picture for Microsoft. The company has the clout, the community, and most importantly the cash to pull this off, but as with all modern smartphone platforms, success can’t be judged on one aspect alone. To make Windows Phone 7 really work, the folks in Redmond will have to hit the right note on not just gaming, but the basic user experience, hardware, applications, and carrier partnerships. Based on what we’ve seen of Xbox Live on these devices, we think the company can check at least one of those boxes off.
Here are a couple of video from Engadget of their time spent with a Samsung Taylor dev handset running Windows Phone 7.
Make sure to drop by Joel’s post and see the other two videos
