Microsoft set to release final version of Windows Live Essentials 2011
Now available. Looking good so far, though I have no use for the mail-related stuff.
Does anyone know if I download and install it, will it keep my contacts, groups, folders and accounts from my present install of WLM?

It should .. but to be on the safe side use Easy Transfer in Windows to backup your setting .. then install .. if a problem occurred you should be able to use Easy Transfer again to import them back to the new install. That is of course if you are using Windows 7
What the hell is that!

I am assuming you are asking in regards to Easy Transfer. It is a Windows utility for making moving your Windows, and supported software, settings to a new machine or in this case creating a backup file that can be stored a couple of ways and then restored on a new install - or in Joe's case a problem install where data hasn't been upgraded.
The easiest to access is from the Start Menu type in Easy Transfer. It should be the first item in the returned list.

When this first showed up in XP it was really bad (and called something else - Pierre should remember the name). Then in Vista it got renamed and improved but was still a little flaky.
In Windows 7 though it actually works really well and the number of programs supported has increased. I've used it a couple of time and it has worked really well.
I was a little testy when I posted. I've spent all day, from 745am to now, 2130, trying to update the two tablets I have that had not been turned on for months (since the aircraft one of them was in slid off the runway into a tidal river and submerged the nose). They both had XP tablet SP1. One of them had the updates for SP2 in it but not installed. The other probably has a more than half hour to go to have SP3 completed. Friday I'll need to go into work for a while and then will come home to upgrade the other from SP2 to SP3. I can't really do it at work because I can't put them on the LAN and both our bootleg wireless and the tablets wireless is "b". They both have 100 mbs nics, though, and I have a port free at home.
<<edit Left it running and went to bed. When I got up this am it had booted so I logged in as administrator and ... there were more updates! Been running an hour now, it's like some sort of evil cornucopia. >>
Found out today that we will be migrated to Win 7. Probably be a year, though.

It does. I only use WLM for newsgroups, though, but when I upgraded it last night I didn't lose anything.
