iTunes help needed

A friend of mine uses iTunes (I know, I know…) to manage his media library – and also to sync his iPod (I know, I know…) with his PC. He cannot find a way to export his library's contents to an external, USB drive: the only backups he gets offered are to his iPod, or to CD/DVD.

Is there a way to backup the iTunes library to an USB drive other than an Apple-built one? And to restore it in case of need?

I just copy and pasted the contents of the users/{user}/My Music/iTunes folder to a USB drive. Never had a problem on any of the several computers I have had to do it with.

Didn't you have any trouble with DRM when doing that? My friend has quite a few media downloaded from the iTunes shop, most with DRM

from memory the DRM is tied to the account name, as long as those match on the new machine is shouldn't be a problem.
This is only my personal experience and I only have a few files that I downloaded from the apple store, most of my music is ripped from the actual CD's and one of the first things I do is disable any DRM options.
