The US Copyright Office has ruled that jailbreaking your iPhone is legal. The way the decision is worded also makes it applicable to the Windows 7 appstore or any other "lock-in" scheme.

Heard Apple says that future updates to the phone may "brick" it. Probably accidentally, of course!

As I recall it, they did that with the first iPhone when people unlocked it from whatever provider had the exclusive contract… And they didn't claim it was accidental, either. Another potential source of endless revenue for ~~shysters~~lawyers

I have a first series iPhone that is currently running ver 3.xx of the software and it is jailbroken, the trick is to not automatically update but wait for a jailbreak of the latest software to be released in the wild, wait a bit to see any potential problems and THEN update.
BTW I don't use the iPhone as a phone (they are crap at that) but keep it as a backup in case my primary phone gets broken etc and as an iPod.
My current cell is a Samsung Galaxy S android phone and comparatively speaking, it craps all over both my old iPhone(as is expected), my daughters 3G iPhone and the iPhone 4 I borrowed for a week-end from a friend (who owns a local phone/cell/net franchise )
The Galaxy is much zippier than the iPhone 4, has a bigger and much brighter screen and even though the iPhone has slightly better resolution the AMOLED screen on the Galaxy just craps on it from a great height.
There are many many apps available for it as well and a lot have now been ported over from iPhone as well.

Garry, do you know if the Galaxy can sync with Outlook? I have an old Samsung i600 which is starting to act up, and I need a smartphone that can sync contacts, calendar and notes with Outlook 2007 or 2010 on my PC.

I don't use any other apps on the phone, I just use it to phone, text, and keep my appointments. I originally selected the i600 because it had a full keyboard, but I can make do with a virtual keyboard.

Sure can, when I first started the phone and was setting up things like email and calendars etc it did ask about outlook, but I don't use it (probably should) I never followed up. A quick search revealed this nugget of info

now all I need is for Outlook 2007 to play nice and import my address book and email accounts. "Import Export" just doesnt work !!

I haven't found a way to import/export email accounts on demand in Outlook. It doesn't even support importing OE's/WM's ".IAF" files.

As for your contacts, it depends on where you want to import them later. You can export them to a ".PST" file in native Outlook format. Some programs can import directly from this format. Otherwise the only choice is a comma-delimited text file.

Still no way to import from Live mail and it refuses point blank to let me point it in the right direction of my old Windows mail settings on the Vista partition.
On a side note, I do recommend that if you get a Galaxy S to also get a rubber case for it as the factory finish on the phone is very slippery, looks nice but a real bitch to hold.

AFAIK there's no way to import settings into Outlook except when you run it the very first time and the settings have been migrated from your previous system.

However, with Windows Mail you should be able to trick it: copy the Vista "Windows Mail" folder tree to the equivalent location in your W7 partition (should be "C:\Users\{login ID}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail"), then launch Outlook with the "/firstrun" switch (see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/command-line-switches-HP001003110.aspx).
