watch tv signal from computer

I bought a cable with DVI on one end and HDMI on the other end.
I connected the DVI to my computer and HDMI to the T.V.
I put the TV on <Source:HDM>
So far so good.

However, my computer desktop shows on the TV, but nothing else. No icons, no sign of what is playing on the computer. Is there a setting I need to do that I have missed?

NM...I got it. Had to duplicate the same display setting on 2 different monitors.
