Opps (and a thanks to Eric and Pierre).
No it wasn't some kind of April Fool's joke because that wouldn't have been funny. The short of it is that late last night just before calling it quits for the day I made a change to the Twitter info in the sidebar and then uploaded the file to the server.
What I forgot was that the last change I had made - which was to remove that offending widget in the first place - had been on the server copy of the file.
