I'm not sure if I saw it here or not and I'm too damn lazy to search for it
but I'm looking for a good - preferably freeware - password wallet type program.

Pen and paper always works well for me

I use roboform. Not freeware but will handle 10 passwords for free. I use both the Desktop install and the portable install. Well worth the cost. If you look around the internet you can find discounts of up to 50% on the price.

I was just going to suggest KeePass. I haven't used it personally, but a colleague does, and loves it.

Keepass is what I use. I keep it on a thumb drive and keep it password protected. I used Access Manager for about 8 years but the free version can't be installed on a thumb drive only the commercial one so I tried keepass and found it similar enough in function that I just kept it. I wanted to keep my password collection outside of my computer for additional security. The thumb drive never leaves my desk but only goes in the front USB port when I need to log on somewhere, then back out.
I never let browsers "save" log in info for me.
I put all my PW and codes in a text doc on a 128meg flash drive.
Even if my machine were to be "hacked" they can't get my passwords off the flashdrive in the desk drawer. hehe
thanks for all the suggestions folks
Keepass works very well. I also keep CD Keys in it as well. But I also write them on the disc if I can.

Roboform is really a sweetheart, give it a go
I've used SplashID. You can categorize passwords, IDs, credit card numbers, etc and it can generate passwords to your specifications. It uses Blowfish encryption. I can run on a computer and on a smart phone and synchronize between them. Not free but not expensive.
