Which ones do you think may be the most important or coolest?
Well, gene therapy is most certainly a promising treatment for auto-immune diseases, but I'm more impressed with the "smelling" of cancer. It's been known for some time that dogs can be trained to detect some cancers (such as melanoma), but if a portable artificial device can be made that does the same thing, it offers a lot of hope for many people.

My melanoma was on my leg, calf actually, and friends' dogs were drawn to it until it was removed. Used to be embarrassing - bit like being humped as they would be so persistent! I didn't know about dogs smelling cancer then.
