I've attached a file to this post in .doc format. Detailed in the file are several programs I've found useful over the years/months/weeks/days. Many of the programs are full-fledged replacements for commercial software and I use quite a few on a daily basis. In several cases there are USB flash drive varients available that allow one to run an entirely portable (and private) office desktop.
The best part: all of these programs are free and some are even open source.
A note about the icons used in the document. I borrowed them from several websites. I don't know who created them and I'm blissfully unaware of any copyright restrictions that may/may not be in place regarding their use. If you are the creator of any of these icons, please don't hesitate to contact me regarding their use. I am more than happy to either provide attribution or remove them if need be. Regardless, they are wonderful icons and I appreciate your artistic abilities.
