That doesn't mean that the main WinExtra domain was going to sit idle and just act as a redirect to the new domain. I have always liked the name and have felt that it was a 'valuable' property when it comes to the original subject it was launched for - Windows and Microsoft. In light of this I have been doing a lot of thinking about the domain since moving the previous content to Shooting at Bubbles and have formulated a road map forward. It's not set in stone but it is an idea that I am comfortable with.
At some point in the next little while (end of July - beginning of August) the redirect to Shooting at Bubbles will have served its purpose and I will be turning it off. At that point a landing page will displayed when people come to the WinExtra domain announcing the impending re-launch of the 'new' WinExtra (as well as a link to the other blog - just in case).
My plans for the new WinExtra are something along these lines:
- Windows specific news and opinion
- Microsoft specific news and opinion
- some reviews of Windows software
- a tips section for Windows (and maybe Microsoft specific software)
- a tutorial section for Windows (and maybe Microsoft specific software) - which will see the moving of the tutorials currently at the forums to the blog
Roadmap Status - Right now I am taking the time to find the right theme that I want to use for the new WinExtra as well as lining up some volunteer writers to help get it launched and keep it fresh. [side note: if you would seriously like to help in this regard just email me and we'll see what can be arranged]
I felt it was only fair to let everyone know what was going on because I realize that my concentrating on the new blog (along with my paying writing gigs) may have some folks thinking that I had given up on the forums. I haven't - if anything this re-launch so let you all know that I am still committed to WinExtra (and the community). That is one of the reason why I moved everything the way I did - I wanted to be able to have WinExtra concentrated on what it was meant to be - a community, a resource, and a information hub for Windows.
So thank you everyone for sticking with WinExtra and I'll keep you informed as things move along.
