Pierre said:
Libraries are especially useful in a LAN environment. By default, the "save as…" dialog in most programs will open the relevant library ("Documents" for a word processor, "Pictures" for a graphic editor, etc…), and you can add any folder to a library – including a network share. This will save you some navigation.

There's only one drawback - if the share you're trying to add to a library isn't indexed on the server you won't be able to add it to the library.

Ah, I think I know what you're saying now. I can't say I've ever needed to specify both a file name and contained text in a search, even in XP. Usually the contained text and a file type, which you can do, is enough for me.

ETA: Dawn, try "filename:blah text you're looking for". Here's a full search syntax list that says it's for Vista and XP, but this says it also applies to 7. I'm not at home so can't try it out myself.

Thanks I'll look at it but it's not the point. It WAS there, it was an excellent feature that I used alot and it's gone. That is more the point. I use windows grep which works great but I shouldn't need to.

There are so many small things in win7 that drive me nuts.

One by one I find workarounds but I resent having to.

You can not separate your search file name: this / contains: that
You could in xp.

Wow, I'm really surprised at all the negativity toward Win7's search. I absolutely love it and find it much more useful than the search functions of prior Windows versions. Yes, Dawn, I did enable indexing... it's caused no performance issues whatsoever, and makes searching lightning fast. And I love that even though they've moved everything around and I can't find anything anymore, all I have to do is type a keyword describing the setting, applet, etc. that I'm looking for, and it pops right up.

I'm still using WinXP at work and it's painful. I can't wait every day to go home and use my Win7 system.

I have over 9000 text files that I am looking for a particular word or phrase INSIDE of. You can not separate your search file name: this / contains: that
You could in xp.

Pretty easy. 2 clicks.
