			<description>&#60;p&#62;Have you tried connecting the XP machine to a different port on the switch? The RJ45 port's first LED only signals a &#60;em&#62;physical&#60;/em&#62; connection. The second LED signals traffic, or (if steady) the speed of the connection (green for the highest speed, yellow for the lowest).&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Stupid question: did the XP machine see the connection without the switch?

			<description>&#60;p&#62;Okay, I bought an 8-port D-Link switch and hooked it up. I plugged 2 machines into it, one Vista, the other XP. The Vista machine was instant-on, the XP machine refuses to see the connection. The LED on the enthernet port is illuminated, so the switch is working. There is no connection in 'network connections'. Fresh XP Home install.&#60;/p&#62;
