There's one (secured) site I can't access from my PC (I can access the unsecured pages of the site without any problem). IE tells me there's a DNS error. I can access it from my wife's computer with no problem. She has IE8 and Vista, I have IE9 and Win7. Both machines are fully up-to-date. Both are connected through the same router. Both have the Windows firewall and MSE. I've looked at the IPv4 parameters, they're identical on both machines. So are IE's security parameters in Internet Options, Advanced. Both hosts files are the default one provided by Windows.

Any ideas, please? <img src="http://www.winextra.com/forums/my-plugins/smiley-choice/Default Smiley/icon_confused.gif" title=":?" class="bb_smilies" />

Win XP Pro.

Whenever a certain disk (one of 3 physical drives in the box) is accessed, a popup saying "Please wait while Windows configures PureHD", quickly followed by an error: "The folder 'My Music' contains an invalid character". The process repeats until one quickly gets to the 'cancel' button a couple times.

Now, ignoring for the moment that there is no 'my music' folder on the disk, any idea where this is coming from, and how do I stop it, aside from simply disabling everything pertaining to PureHD?

Here's the deal. I have an excel spreadsheet. Originally it was just on an external drive, no worries there.

However, now I have 2 people working on it so I copied it to a thumb drive. At the end of the day I'll have 2 copies of the spreadsheet, one with modifications by Misty and one with modifications by me.

How can I merge it so the modifications of one of us are not overwritten?

I used to frequently use Daemon Tools Lite, but for some reason it's stopped working correctly.
1. I make an iso of the dvd
2. I load the iso into DT's catalog
3. I mount the iso
What happens next is wierd, my Sony DVD player briefly flashes onscreen, then back to the desktop.

VLC sort of plays an iso, but the menus are not always working properly. I just tried to play an exercise iso, I can't fast forward or skip.

Hmm..Update: seems to be something with the Sony player.
I put in the same exercise DVD, the player briefly flashed onscreen, then back to the desktop.

Any suggestions as to what to do?

Joe

I have a computer that has been cripled with group policy. Can't show the log on screen, safe mode is no different. Is there a way I can log on to this computer as the administrator?

Thanks for any input.

EDIT: There's one icon in the system tray that looks like a red lock that could also have something to do with this.

Researched the topic of splwow64. Seems to be needed.
Honestly takes 5-7 min to print. The software says not responding. Then finally prints. Any advice.

Is there a way to force windows to see a usb drive as a specific drive letter? I have a sound program for the theatre that can easily run off a thumb drive, but it writes the drive letter into each sound cue. So if I'm working on something at home and the computer sees the drive as F and I bring it into work and the computer sees the drive as E everything is fubar. If I could force the work computer to see the drive as the same letter as the home computer everything would be shiny.

Hey there folks
Hope everybody's having a good summer. Well except for any 'lower hemispherehabitants' - I hope they are enjoying winter!

Got a quick question - Does anybody use a multiple printer driver? IE. you print to the driver and it sends your job to multiple printers. I have a user who wants to hit print once and have it sent to the printer at his desk, and another printer on the LAN.
I see these drivers around but don't know which would be good to try - anybody have any experience with anything like this?

Thanks!
Greg
