I organize its contents into folders and sub-folders so I don't have to grope through, as you state it, "a list of programs that can number in the hundreds" – which, BTW, is exactly what the new start screen forces me to do – in order to find what I need. It is the first time since Windows 2k I didn't install a beta. I can see Microsoft's point for ditching the start menu. How many people click Start - All Programs - and manually search through a list of programs that can number in the hundreds, or go to Control Panel and click 20 icons to find something? Since Vista, I have used the search bar in the start menu for doing everything from configuring the OS to launching applications, finding email, etc. I quit using the Start Menu and used search for everything. Then, people hesitate to move to Windows 8 because it requires learning new tricks (the so-called "Modern" interface is awkward when used without a touch-sensitive screen, and the desktop without an application menu is next to unusable) If I were heading a large company with thousands of computers, I'd send Microsoft packing and switch to Linux.
