@PJ where do I find Location history? In the same dashboard? My google is pretty clean, I don't use G+ much and stay signed out most of the time. I don't link accounts, anywhere.

For me, the entry occurs in the Dashboard, about midway down the page:

More than likely what you are seeing is a bit of software that ties them together has been infested.

If you've been visiting SATW.com then you'll encounter a redirect to a Chinese website. There is a bit of code in that page that links it to other websites with comics. Remember the old "rings" that websites used to link into to form communities? That's what was infested in this case.

Outside of my Gmail and youtube account, google doesn't have much in my Dashboard. I disabled web history about 5 years ago when they first revealed it as a "service". I don't use Android. I've considered deleting my Gmail account more every year. It has turned into the SPAM bucket my Hotmail account used to be.

My chrome browser just presented me with the identical message for 4 sites I tried to visit this morning:

"Content from http://www.googlecodehosting.org, a known malware distributor, has been inserted into this web page. Visiting this page now is very likely to infect your Mac with malware."

The sites are comics that I follow. I don't know where they are hosted or the software that's used but the author of one is in Canada, one probably in Pennsylvania, another probably in the US, and the last of the 4 in Scandinavia. Some one has been busy over the weekend.

True that. Even with all the firearms in circulation, the tools the government has are far, far superior. Any armed internal uprising could be quelled rather quickly once the decision was made to do so.

That, plus military training. A small, well-organized and disciplined force can hold a huge mob at bay for any length of time. Now you can begin to reflect upon the "well disciplined militia" the Founding Fathers spoke about…

@Moosepucky I disagree. Up until a little over a year ago I never used my name, now I do on Facebook. You can maintain privacy while using cell phones and social media if you don't put all of your information out there.
There is a huge difference in GIVING information to purchase a gun and someone STEALING your information because...well, because they can!

<snipped text>
If you want privacy it is your choice. No social media. No smart phone.

If you wish to purchase a firearm in this country you must give out a lot of information about yourself. I see it being no different if you want to use a cell phone. If you don't want to give info, don't buy a gun, don't get a cell phone. It is a personal choice that you need to make.

I agree with most of what you state but....

We need to take back control of our personal information by establishing limits of what we will allow to be collected and used. We've already seen that registering weapons and turning over all of that personal information really does little to stop armed crime. It simply keeps honest people under control.

I encourage all of you to go log into your Google account and check out what information they've collected about you, with your permission.

1. Sign in to google.com
2. Change the URL from http://www.google.com to http://www.google.com/dashboard
3. Start reviewing the information. You'll be shocked at what they've learned about you.
4. If you have an Android-based mobile take a look at the "Location history and reporting. I promise, you will not like what you find.

My google account is very sparse. I use the webmaster tools section and have had a gmail account for ages but never sent or received anything (other than unsolicited spam coming in).

I have a "dumb" cell phone (flip phone). It stays powered down 99% of the time, only coming live when I want to make an out of the calling area (long distance) call. Then it gets powered off. I know that it keeps in touch with the near towers even when powered off but it never leaves my home so I am not as interesting as you are. I am not so pairnoid that I pull the battery but rather close.

I don't have a facebook account
I don't have a google + account
I don't have a twitter account

No social media what so ever.

When I did a search for my name (full, partial, name + state, name + city + state nothing about me came back) the only thing that came up was an obituary for a homeless man in a different state.

I have had an unlisted phone number all my life. I have had a post office box all my life. Even my driver's license has the post office box on it.

If you want privacy it is your choice. No social media. No smart phone.

A little while back I started back up with my college classes in a bid to earn my bachelor's degree. One of the first classes I took dealt with technology and ethics. The end result was a bit of internal confusion as I tried to analyse, reinterpret and understand the why-fores and where-to's of some of my beliefs.

More than ever I am convinced that an individual must take responsibility for, own and cultivate their digital persona. This even extends to the thought that a person has the right to prostitute their digital information in return for services.

For example: if I can afford to purchase my Internet access at normal price then my ISP has no right to data mine my information or resell it for profit in any fashion. On the other hand, if I cannot afford to pay for my digital service then I can establish a contract with any ISP that provides me service in return for the ability to market and mine my non-personal data. Access to my specific personal data incurs a high premium from the service provider. And even then, access to this data is for a specific period of time, say up to two years.

I believe similar limits must exist for governments. Recognizing the need for security, we should approach the situation by establishing limits on what the government and service providers may collect about our digital presences and for how long. After that, all data must be purged and not accessed again.

I remember the genesis of the case that forms the basis of the below TED talk. Very interesting with many significant insights.
http://embed.ted.com/talks/malte_spitz_your_phone_company_is_watching.html
(Warning: Malte is difficult to listen to at first as he appears to suffer from a strong stutter. It gets much, much better as he relaxes.)

Here's a snappie of what's in my history for the past week:

Notice the time line at the bottom? You can scroll through every minute of every day and see exactly where you were at what time. The low points in the data strip correspond to the time I am at home and the cell phone is not being used. The peaks correspond to my movements. While on the move, my cell phone records and reports my location every few minutes. Google has collected months of this data and while I can delete it at any time I desire I have no guarantee that the data is actually deleted from their servers or data sets.

I use this as a teaching lesson for my students in class. Most of our younger students are unaware of how vulnerable they are due to their own poor Internet hygiene. Their familiarity with technology breeds a certain contempt for the consequences of sharing everything with the world. It also creates a very "I don't care" attitude about privacy and anonymity regards the government and public at large. As parents we must educate ourselves about this things and teach our children. Hoping that the educational system will do it is rather like having unprotected sex and hoping to not get pregnant.

That's because they've restricted the population's ability to possess firearms. A computer blog is not as effective a weapon against tyranny as an armed barricade

By now, our founder fathers would be wondering why we're not in the middle of an armed uprising. Too late for that, IMO. It's over.

No, it isn't over. It's just the start. What do you think will happen once the governments of other countries realize they're being spied upon by the US of A? They'll start by asking the US government to cease and desist, and because the NSA and other "secret" government agencies think of themselves as being beyond any law, they will not stop the spying. This will eventually escalate into war, first commercial, then shooting, and the USA will go down in history as the country that started WW3 – if there's anyone left to write history, of course. This is one of the ways civilizations die out…

By now, our founder fathers would be wondering why we're not in the middle of an armed uprising. Too late for that, IMO. It's over.

That's because they've restricted the population's ability to possess firearms. A computer blog is not as effective a weapon against tyranny as an armed barricade

Once the 2nd amendment becomes irrelevant, it is not long before the rest of the people's rights get trampled on easier.

What's the secret to the National Security Agency's Prism program? There's a bigger information seizure going on right now.

Government agents say that while Prism cuts through large chunks of data for specific information, the government has another program that's sure to surprise you.

This operation grabs data as it enters fiber optic cables, copies the traffic entering and exiting the United States, and ships it to the NSA for analysis.

If you thought Prism was an invasion of your privacy, then you ain't seen nothing yet.

Well, the word is used in many instances outside of porn. It's derived from the word "Arab" – improperly used to designate North Africans because they speak Arabic, the same way North American dwellers and Australians speak English, i.e., with specific accents and locally developped words – in a process similar to pig-latin, and the "ette" suffix makes it feminine (in French, even words have gender <img src="http://www.winextra.com/forums/my-plugins/smiley-choice/Default Smiley/icon_wink.gif" title=";)" class="bb_smilies" /> )

I know, I know, so many languages just have no words for some occupations formerly held only by men.

I did explain that the item you don't recognize is a reference to females of North African (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) origin.

I also mentioned the strange absence of statistics for D.C.… Somehow I don't believe Capitol Hill is immune to porn <img src="http://www.winextra.com/forums/my-plugins/smiley-choice/Default Smiley/icon_twisted.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" />

Washington is in the District of Colombia (Federal District) which is in Virginia, so try Virginia? The statistics were obviously gathered by NSA's PRISM so leaving Washington, DC, out was probably a political decision.

This past week I watched, twice, a documentary called Searching for Sugar Man. If you haven't seen it, it is very good. It has to do with the search for a musician who was/is famous in South Africa. In many ways, the less you know about the film, the more enjoyable it would be.

I follow the comic Scandinavia and the World and today's strip is about global internet porn habits,
It's an info graphic of porn search terms by country and for the US by state. <img src="http://www.winextra.com/forums/my-plugins/smiley-choice/Default Smiley/icon_surprised.gif" title=":o" class="bb_smilies" />

I notice that in many countries the first choice is for porn from that country. I guess that they actually want to listen to the sound track in their own language. <img src="http://www.winextra.com/forums/my-plugins/smiley-choice/Default Smiley/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />

Trust France to be kinky. Their number two choice is some kind of sex that I've never heard of. <img src="http://www.winextra.com/forums/my-plugins/smiley-choice/Default Smiley/icon_confused.gif" title=":?" class="bb_smilies" />
