I am a big fan of science fiction and fantasy so when any news about another attempt to bring quality work to the small screen surfaces I feel my pulse quicken just a little bit.

Such was the case when I heard that HBO was going to be taking a big gamble on bringing Game of Thrones to the screen but thanks to the success that they have had with the series other production companies and networks are looking to hop on the train of success that Game of Thrones has had.

At the top of the list apparently is the long running series by Terry Brooks called Shannara; which is a story that happens in a magic infused world that is set hundreds of years after the fall of human civilization courtesy of a nuclear holocaust.

While there has been no distribution deals announced so far the developers of the idea, Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films plan on shopping the series idea to US networks failry soon.

Needless to say Brooks is excited about the idea of his epic series making it to the television screen and had this to say to Variety:

Partnering with Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films on adapting the Shannara saga for television is an exciting prospect. Everything about both companies suggests the result will be one that both old and new fans of the books will readily embrace. I am committed to doing everything I can to help make this happen.”

As a fan of the series I have my fingers crossed and hope that it the series does go ahead that it will be the quality of Game of Thrones and not Sinbad.
