‘Castle Wolfenstein’ Gets A ‘Pulp Fiction’ Writer Director
If there are any games that us old timers remember with overly fond memories it would have to be Doom (terrible movie), Duke Nukem (gawd awful sequel game), and Castle Wolfenstein. Oh and Descent but more on that in another post.
While recent movies have been fairly kind to comic books the same can’t necessarily be said to be the same when it comes to video games but there is news out today that the fan favorite Castle Wolfenstein is back on the front burner for a movie treatment with Pulp Fiction writer Roger Avary signed on to both write and direct the movie, with the producer’s chair being filled by Samuel Hadida who is known for Silent Hill and Resident Evil: Extinction.
Apparently they will being going for the alternate history angle with a retro vibe along with a whole bunch of violent and over-the-top action. Avary had this to say in the press release for the announcement:
“I’ve been playing the ‘Wolfenstein’ games since I was a kid, and feel that theiroutlandish sensibility has deeply influenced my own writing and directing throughout my career. I have always thought ‘Wolfenstein,’ transformed and opened for the screen to wider audiences not familiar with the games, would be a major cinematic experience, which is why I introduced it to Samuel.”

I have a few fond memories of playing the game and given this news it will be interesting to see how this develops.
