Wanting to do something a little different to promote their A4 automobile maker Audi teamed up with Slot Mods USA to create a custom handmade slot car race track that comes with a set of scale model Audi A4 cars and set up in Toronto’s Royal Bank Plaza.

To make the cars Slot Mods USA used an industrial laser scanner to build a digital outline of the sedan which was then sent to a 3D printer to create the body shell for the cars. The all-wheel-drive slot car chassis were made by a separate company with emphasis placed on the model car’s traction that was accomplished using special magnets.

The really cool part though was that each car also built with a mini camera included which feed images to an iPad wirelessly. It is with the iPads that the “drivers” control the cars as well as getting a live feed of the track from inside the car as they race around the track.
