300,000 miles per hour earth-sized plasma tornado travels across the Sun [Video]

Think we have it rough with our Cat 5 hurricanes and F2 or F3 tornadoes, well they are nothing compared to what can be whipped up on the Sun in the blink of an eye. Last week an incredible plasma tornado travelling across the Sun’s surface at speeds estimated to be around 300,000 mile per hour was caught by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite. Not only is the speed mind…

I love cool science and this my friends fits right in that category. I mean how cool is this – Italian physicists have just discovered traces of a very rare nuclei that contains an exotic form of matter called hyperons. This was part of the discovery of a hydrogen nucleus with 6 nucleons, which apparently includes 4 neutrons, 1 proton (which makes it hydrogen) and one uncharged hyperon called lambda.

It is one thing to build tiny robots but the work into building them is time consuming and extremely difficult because it all has to be done by hand and powerful microscopes. This means that being able to build large numbers of something like tiny bee-sized robots that can act as a colony can take a long time. Not happy with how long it takes or how difficult it can…

Data, big data. It’s the big buzzword these days as is the ability to turn all the data into animated visualization which is what this pretty cool video is all about. Using all the data collected from the trip data collected by 10,000 taxi rides over a 24 hour period and combining all that information with waypoint data collected from the Google Map API in relation to those rides Tom McKeogh,…

We’ve all see video of some chicken wandering around sans their head and other various Frankensteinish type medical wonders but somehow the idea of something in a petri dish in a lab having a pulse you can measure isn’t high on the list of things to watch. That’s a shame because even though it might be hard to believe scientists have managed, with stem cells, to create the smooth muscle…
