When we think of paintings the last thing that we might consider as a medium is household dust but for Allison Cortson it just another way to express the space around us.

In these paintings the only “real painted” images are the people in the paintings and the background is made up of the household dust that she actually collects from the homes of her subjects. Once she has painted the human subject she sprinkles the dust on the canvas and then manipulates it with a brush. Once everything is as she wants it a coat of acrylic sealer is applied to it.

As unusual at the idea of using dust like this might be you have to admit that the end results are rather interesting, not to mention very well done.
