So Yahoo Japan, which is only partially owned by the Yahoo we all know and love, is going to make a deal with Google to provide its search results. Unsurprisingly Microsoft isn’t too pleased with that idea since the combination would give Google 90+% of the search market in Japan.

Microsoft:

  • Device Stage Visual Editor Now Available – The Windows Blog
You’ve heard us talk about some great Device Stage implementations such as Sierra Wireless AirCards, Kodak EasyShare M530, Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro and Canon Cameras and Printers but never about how to make Device Stage experiences come to life.
  • Microsoft should cut out the middlemen, build its own phones - Ars Technica
Microsoft has a long and illustrious history of operating system sales. The model has served the company well on the PC, but if it wants to make money in the phone market, it needs to start thinking like a consumer electronics company. That means selling Microsoft phones
  • Microsoft calls Google-Yahoo search pact in Japan anticompetitive – Mary Jo Foley
Microsoft is none too pleased about a newly minted four-year search pact between Google and Yahoo in Japan.

Windows:

  • Windows 7 SP1 beta download goes public – Download Squad
If don’t have a TechNet or MSDN subscription and you’ve been anxious to get the Windows 7 SP1 beta installed (though I’m not sure why you would be if your system is already up to date and you’re not a system admin or developer), now’s your chance.

Windows Phone 7:

  • Panorama and Pivot controls for WP7 – WMPoweruser

  • 5 good questions about Windows Phone 7 – DVICE
The Internet has been alive with “reviews” of a developer’s sample of a Samsung smartphone running Windows Mobile 7 (aka Windows Phone 7 or WinMob7 or WM7), Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system.
  • Windows Phone 7 Design Resources – Steve Clayton
I’ll say from the start that I’m a fan of Metro – the new design system for Windows Phone 7. It’s already inspired a great Twitter client and having played with a WP7 recently, I continue to be impressed.
  • WP7 Voice command should add “Siri” like intelligence – WMPoweruser
Last week, we saw a demo of speech recognition features for WP7 powered by Tellme.  The app had robust web searching capabilities providing great local results.
