Well the big news of the day in the Microsoft world of course was the TechEd event in New Orleans but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t other Windows and related news. In fact we’ve got a pretty good round-up for a Monday.

Microsoft:

  • Microsoft: Our new phone is for business, plus app store news – Seattle Times
In a post keyed to Microsoft’s TechEd conference in New Orleans this week, Bryan explained the company’s portfolio of phones and how the WP7 devices coming out later this year are aimed largely at business users. This kind of thing won’t sway the people who can’t wait for an iPhone 4, but it may help corporate IT buyers and developers thinking about if and how Microsoft phones fit into their plans.
  • New Policies for Next Gen Windows Phone Marketplace – The Windows Blog
Today we’re introducing the new set of Windows Phone Marketplace policies that will govern the application submission and certification process as Windows Phone 7 comes to market. We’re taking the next step with Marketplace to attract a much wider range of developers, from large software companies down to students and hobbyists.

Windows:

  • Windows 7 SP1 Beta in July 2010 – Codename Windows
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta and Windows Server 2008 SP1 (one and the same thing actually) will reach public Beta next month.
  • Office Communicator 14 makes me wish for a Windows Live Messenger “Lite” – Long Zheng
During the TechEd North America 2010 keynote this morning in New Orleans, Microsoft showed off a new build of Office Communicator “14″, the enterprise-equivalent of Windows Live Messenger, and it makes me wish Microsoft would ship a “light” version of Windows Live Messenger for those of us who just want to, dare I say, communicate.
  • Wave 4 Web services go live! – LiveSide.net
At least some of the new Wave 4 web services are now live, both here in the US and in Australia, at least.
  • Bing Comes to the iPhone – But Google Remains the Default – ReadWriteWeb
During his WWDC keynote today, Steve Jobs just announced that Microsoft’s Bing will now be one of the search option in Safari on the iPhone. Microsoft already developed a Bing iPhone application that allows iPhone users to use the search engine’s features on the iPhone without having to create a browser bookmark.

Internet Explorer 8

  • New Advertising Campaign for Internet Explorer 8 Kicks Off – The Windows Blog
Every day we use the internet to shop, book travel and do our banking. To do this we share personal information such as our name and address, credit cards numbers and enter our passwords. We need to be able to do this with confidence, knowing that our information is being used only by the company or organization that we intended to share it with.

Windows Phone 7

  • Windows Phone 7 Means Business – The Windows Blog
Microsoft’s annual TechEd Conference started today and we’re taking this opportunity to share more about what Windows Phone 7 means to business through keynotes, sessions and product demonstrations. I thought I’d take a few minutes to share an overview of what attendees are hearing.
  • Microsoft makes the business case for Windows Phone 7 – Mary Jo Foley
Microsoft officials have said next-to-nothing about how Windows Phone 7 will meet business users’ needs — beyond promising a new Office Hub will be built into the platform.
