Well today was the big launch day for Wave 4 of Windows Live Essentials which is a collection of programs that include Windows Live Mail, the new Messenger and a bunch of other programs. I am sure tomorrow will see a lot of reviews = both good and bad, because we know that Microsoft can’t do anything right.

The French version is still Beta. Since I only use it for WLM's newsreader capability, I installed it last night (it wasn't available before). The confounded thing takes ages and a reboot to install, and it doesn't give you a choice about what components you install (including the Bing Toolbar! Grrr…); hopefully the final version will allow more selection – and install faster. OTOH, it promises that the "Wave 4" version will be included in the Windows Update scan, unlike the "Wave 3" version.

When that 'install everything' happened on my main machine I thought maybe I had double clicked something but needless to say that lack of choice caught me off guard but when it happened on the laptop I was not impressed at all.

I meant to mention that in the post I wrote about Essentials so thanks for reminding me about it.
