Ya that is one of the biggest bitches I really have with WLW right now. I lost hours yesterday trying to code something but because of the way that WLW uploads the pictures I had to cancel the idea. No matter what I tried I just couldn't pull what I needed from the post.

Don't believe what you read on mini completely. It looks like not only is the Live Writer team alive and kicking but a few weeks back at a WordCamp they announced/released some new add-ins for WordPress. http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!2...

the one other area where it falls down as well is support for things like Custom Fields in WP .. frustrating sometimes.

I've not heard anything about any new developments in ages and to be honest I've even lost track of who is on the dev team for this. Unfortunately I fear, when it comes to WordPress, development is moving far to rapidly for most offline editors to keep pace.

And with the new image editor shipping in WP 2.9 they days of a solid desktop client may be numbered.

Also, with regardless to Live Writer, which I still love BTW, when you insert an image in a post it doesn't end up in the WordPress Media Gallery, which means it's not available for thumbnail generation which is becoming more and more prevalent with magazine based themes.
