The news has been percolating through the web for the last week or so but today PayPal officially announced its flexible payments API, called Adaptive Payments, would be open to developers starting in November, but was accepting beta testers until then. One of the nice things to see in the announcement as well was that Microsoft with its Azure cloud computing platform will be utilizing the new PayPal API.

“The Windows Azure platform provides developers with a scalable, interoperable cloud development environment to build and deploy services and applications,” said Yousef Khalidi, Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft. “By allowing the developer community to take advantage of the PayPal adaptive payment platform through the Windows Azure platform, developers will have the opportunity to utilize a billing solution for the Windows Azure platform services they offer by providing customers with an easy on-line payment program option.”

Microsoft cloud computing platform Azure is also utilizing Adaptive Payments to let developers who are building applications using PayPal seamless integrate their applications with Azure’s platform. Microsoft is working with PayPal to help developers easily embed billing and payment functionality into applications built off Azure and will offer interoperability between Azure and Adaptive Payments.
