Welcome to another edition of the Forum Round-up

Long-time forum member XCarlosX brings an all-too-common problem to us in his post Laptop HD Kaputsky.  How do you re-install a laptop’s hard drive when there’s no restore disc?  Laptops tend to come with the re-installation software on a separate partition, leaving the creation of re-install discs up to the customer.  But what if the customer doesn’t create those discs and the HD goes bad?  The forum members toss some good ideas out there but at the end of the day, laptop manufacturers are getting stingy and the customer’s are getting the short end of the stick.

Our friend Ron The Joker keeps us stitched up with a constant spool of humor that he posts daily in The Jokes.  He brought us an especially good one in The Chicken, updated and unabridged, read it and giggle.  Just a bit.  For Ron’s sake.

Our recently updated VAX, often called Pierre by friends, links us to a site that provides links to other sites carrying ‘abandonware’.  Mostly games but well worth the look.  You might find that copy of MS’ Hover that disappeared so long ago.  While you’re at that link, take a moment to look around at some of the other posts in the ‘Cool Links’ category.  There’s sure to be something to tickle your fancy there.

Cleo gave us a gift of a link to a site that showcases Julian Beever’s artwork.  Without giving too much away, you’ll be amazed at what you can find on the sidewalks of Europe.

There’s an interesting thread that’s been running for quite a few days in the cage:  ’Palin:  The rest of the story“.  Mind you, the cage is for adult discussions and content.  You will probably be offended by some of what you read there but then again, all topics are open to discussion in The Cage.  Deal with it and have fun dishing it out.

We are seriously looking for a SCSI Guru to jump into this conversation.  Moosepucky has taken to living life on the razor’s edge and wants to mix and match SCSI HD sizes in a single RAID array.  Even Pierre couldn’t address this one completely.  As a consequence, Pierre’s designation has been downgraded from a ‘mainframe’ to a modestly-sized Beowulf cluster.

Here’s hoping that you “Have a Great Day!”

Next week:  Lehman Brothers, is it the end of the financial universe as we know it?
