Every once in awhile governments do actually come out with something that is totally worth expending billions of dollars and huge amounts of manpower on in order to fix things that are the scourge of our society. Today Dominic Rivera of The Inquisitr (Duncan Riley’s excellent new blog) has a post about how the US Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved the Combating Child Exploitation Act of 2007.
The act is intended to encourage all levels of government and law agencies to use and create methods; software or otherwise, to hunt down these scum buckets living on the dark side of the Internet. The problem is that the bill is now in the hands of the Senate at large and the only hope of its passing is that it is an election years.
According to Dominic the bill is being sponsored by Senator Joe Biden and would spend that money over an eight year period in the following ways:
Require the Attorney General to appoint a Special Counsel for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction within the Office of Deputy Attorney General to coordinate Department of Justice policies and strategies for the prevention and investigation of child exploitation cases. Establish within the Office of Justice Programs an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC Task Force), consisting of state and local task forces (one task force for each state) to address online enticement of children, child exploitation, and child obscenity and pornography cases. Require the Attorney General to establish a National Internet Crimes Against Children Data Network Center to assist the ICAC Task Force program and federal, state, local, and tribal agencies investigating and prosecuting child exploitation. Authorize the Attorney General to award grants to state and local ICAC task forces to combat Internet crimes against children. Require the Attorney General to establish additional computer forensic capacity to address backlogs, including for child exploitation investigations. Amend the federal criminal code to authorize wiretapping in state child exploitation investigations. Authorize funding for additional agents and personnel for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Postal Service.
While Dominic is concerned on how $1 Billion can go up against a reported $3 Billion child pornography industry I have a simple solution - when found guilty take the sick bastards out back of the woodshed and shoot them in the nuts - wait 20 minutes and call for the ambulance.
In my cranky old fart opinion these sick fucks don’t deserve any mercy and that it doesn’t matter how many years you stick them behind bars the moment they get out they’ll go right back to what they did but a lot smarter about not getting caught again.
