Yesterday I received an email from Sarah Perez one of the head honchos of a new blogger network called Grand Effect asking me if I would be interested in joining. Needless to say I was a little caught off guard by the offer as I didn’t think that this blog had reached a point where other folks would be interested in hiring me or asking me to join any networks. As well I wasn’t to sure exactly what Grand Effect was or how it would be a good thing for a blogger to be a member of.
As I did some checking I found that besides Sarah several other bloggers who I respect and like were also members of the network. The fact that folks like M.G. Siegler (ParisLemon), Corvida (SheGeeks) and Frederic (The Last Podcast) felt the network was worth being a part of went a long way to alleviating some of the questions that I might have.
Now Grand Effect isn’t a typical blogger network. Rather what the founders of the network are doing is forming a small group of bloggers in the technology field (I’m told no more than 10) to act as a single unit for advertisers to deal with. I’m not sure of all the details of how this will work as I am still getting set up with them; but given my feelings about bloggers and advertising any idea that can make it easier for smaller independent bloggers to access quality advertising is a good thing in my book.
Additionally being a member of Grand Effect won’t affect me being able to write for anyone else should they ever want a cranky old fart writing for them. This is because Grand Effect isn’t a blog in itself; although from what I understand they may add original content to the site at some point. What the site does do though is provide an aggregated list; with a small snippet of the post, of new posts on member sites.
If you are interested in having a look at the Grand Effect or any of the member sites here’s a list for you to peruse - you can also click through to them from the link bar at the top of the page
