Yahoo + Wordpress = MS poison pill

A post on Blogging Pro pointed me to the original post on ReviewSaurus where they suggest that the idea of Yahoo adding to its poison pill arsenal against Microsoft by acquiring Wordpress could have some merit. They go on to outline three reasons why it would be good for Yahoo and then an additional two reasons why it would work for Wordpress.

On Yahoo’s side:

1. Yahoo 360 is a total failure and Yahoo is the only company which isn’t successful in the blogging field. Microsoft’s Live Spaces and Google’s Blogger are quite successful in their own senses.

2. Yahoo has been big supporter of Open-source movement and WordPress is one gem of a software and one of the most successful open-source project ever created.

3. Yahoo needs to invest in a company which is growing and what will be a better example other than WordPress which is one of the fastest growing community around the internet.

And then from a Wordpress perspective

1. Yahoo is still the number 1 portal (according to Alexa rankings) and if they collaborate with them then they certainly will be in benefit and will get access to much better resources than ever.

2. WordPress needs an advertising platform and YPN can be a great option for them. Not only that will be a huge boost to WordPress but it will also benefit those millions of bloggers who want to earn money out of their blogs. It will also be good for Yahoo as they’ll get a huge user base of active bloggers who want to be part of YPN.

You gotta admit that as strange as the idea sounds when you look at the reasoning it does seem to make some sense although I doubt severely that it is one we will ever see happen.

So Yahoo is going to take over Wordpress or is it just a rumour?
As you wrote that google's blogger is a success but now days new bloggers are not creating any blogspot blogs and infact many old blog spot bloggers are converting their blogspot blog to wordpress blogs.

I doubt very much that it will happen - it more of just interesting
speculation IMO. As for the blogger stuff that is quotes from the original
post not my thoughts on it.

This makes so much sense and I've been hoping for several months that something like this would happen. I've even suggested it to the head of 360. I've a frustrated 360 user that is tired of waiting for Yahoo to finally come out with the "Universal Profile System" to replace 360.

You didn't mention that WordPress powers most of Yahoo's corporate blogs. Yahoo's small business devices also heavily promotes WordPress as a blogging option for Yahoo's web hosting customers.

Ahh Yahoo...the bunch of incompetent losers have been following me round the web f*cking up sites that I love. Take Flickr. If they take over Wordpress that's me outta there.
