Its funny how bloggers get picked on or made fun of by the majority of mainstream media even though at the same time they are trying to figure out how best to use us. They try and suggest that bloggers are too easily swayed or bought off and this is why citizen journalism isn’t something that readers should place their trust in.
In a post today the New York Times journalist David Barstow talked about how the military analysts that have been used by mainstream media are really nothing more than mouthpieces for the Pentagon and the White House. Well DUH! it’s not like most people haven’t figured that out at some point or another but at the same time MSM is more than willing to use these tainted sources.
“It was them saying, ‘We need to stick our hands up your back and move your mouth for you,’ ” Robert S. Bevelacqua, a retired Green Beret and former Fox News analyst, said.
Kenneth Allard, a former NBC military analyst who has taught information warfare at the National Defense University, said the campaign amounted to a sophisticated information operation. “This was a coherent, active policy,” he said.
As conditions in Iraq deteriorated, Mr. Allard recalled, he saw a yawning gap between what analysts were told in private briefings and what subsequent inquiries and books later revealed.
I find it almost laughable that the very people who are calling the citizen journalist / blogger integrity and ethics into question are themselves showing on a daily bases just how important ethics and morality is to them. I am not at all surprised as the White House and Pentagon’s actions in this attempt to subvert the flow of information against its own people. As well I am not really surprised at MSM as they all run around trying to find the right analyst to match their own political leanings - perhaps it is just more a matter of being disappointed that it took them this long to admit it.
