From the Pipeline - 3.18.08

Today was a sad day as it is the day that one of the best sci-fi writers known passed away at the great age of 90. Arthur C. Clarke while known as well for his scientific contribution was for me one of sci-fi’s triumvirate for classic science fiction. Along with Robert Heinlein and James Blish, his writings enticed me into alternate universes where anything and everything was possible.

He will truly be missed.

Now from today’s FriendFeed pipeline here’s a few things that caught my eye.

Internet addiction a real mental illness? Give me a break! :: Paul O’Flaherty - Paul deserves an honorary cranky badge for his post on this stupidity some psychologist is pimping about including excessive internet usage as a psychiatric disorder. What a load of bullshit.

FriendFeed a destination site, that is soooo web 2.0! :: Alexander van Elsas - I am firm believer in that if you are willing to promote something you must be willing to consider opposing viewpoints. In this instance I am a firm fan of FriendFeed but that doesn’t stop me from reading Alexander’s well written and clear headed piece on FriendFeed from the opposite side of the table.

Quit following me unless your going to listen.. :: Paul O’Flaherty - Paul was on a rip today powered by some really good cranky meds (how about sharing Paul :) ) as he slams the silliness of people on Twitter who seem to follow people just for the sake of the Following count.

The Fragmentation of Identity and Discussion :: Internet Duct Tape - whether you like or dislike FriendFeed the one thing you can’t deny is that it has provided us with some excellent conversation starting points. This post by //engtech is another one of those great posts that deserve to be read.

I look for Lijit :: Seek - This post by seekshare reminded me of another service that I have used in the past called Lijit and how useful it is. Think this is another one that I am going to have to revisit shortly. Thanks SeekGround.
