I have to admit that when MG Siegler first asked me about joining up with the rest of the Elite Tech News team on the custom reddit feed I didn’t set my expectations to high especially since the idea of the custom reddit feeds hadn’t really gotten that much noise around the tech blogosphere; other than Dave Winer’s attempt which he has closed down.
On top of that I am pretty well known for not being a big proponent of the whole social thing; whether it be networks or news, but given who I would be working with I figured I would give it a try and see how things worked out. Like most of the teams other members; MG Siegler - ParisLemon (Founder), Frederic - The Last Podcast, Jason - webomatica, Louis Gray - Silicon Valley Blog and Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins lately of Mashable, we thought that maybe a few people would like what we felt made for interesting news items.
I can’t speak for the other on this but for myself the experience has been a pleasant surprise in the response we have gotten in the number of subscribers to our team feed. In just about a week - the other’s will correct me if I’m wrong - Elite Tech News has gone from being a bottom of the page at the end of the list with one or two subscribers to our current placement.
As it stands right now Elite Tech News is solidly in the top half of Page 3 (of 13 pages and growing) with 338 subscribers and a forward momentum that doesn’t appear to be slowing down. So what may have started out as a lark of an experiment with a new medium of sharing news is turning out to be a news feed that people are genuinely interested in reading; and that for me at least is a really good feeling.
I know it is the intention of the whole Elite Tech News team to keep bringing you what we think are good tech related news stories and to that end we are always open to hearing back from you the readers so that we can try and make it a better experience. In the meantime thanks to all our subscribers for coming along for the ride and don’t be shy about sharing your find with your friends and neighbors.
