I was just pointed to a new service by a good friend (thanks pB) that appears to be just another reddit type clone. However the person behind the new service called ABS (awesomebullshit.com) would like to think that the service actually takes the reddit idea and fills in some of the holes he thinks exists with reddit.
As the person behind ABS says:
My main goal with ABS is to address the problems that Reddit has incurred and subsequently ignored. Namely duplication, linkjacking, and spam. On reddit, there is a report link. Yay. But that doesn’t quite solve the problem of stupid content. So something was reported, but reported for what reason? Why! And even after a link was reported, and remove, so what? Do it enough times and you’ll get kicked out. ABS had a harder take on stupid content. And a better reward system for pointing out stupid content.
Currently the site is running under the radar with any information about the site and who owns it behind a GoDaddy Private Registration proxy. Now as fun as the domain name may sound at this time one has to wonder how serious a site can be taken with a name like Awesome Bullshit; which could be one reason why in his blog post the writer is always referring to it as ABS.
Is there really room for another reddit clone?
I don’t know but whether filling in the spots where reddit is lacking will gain ABS enough traction to become a serious competitor to reddit I do believe that its current domain name isn’t going to do it any favors.
