Revolutionary? - Give me a frikken break

TechCrunch Crunchies Awards So the Crunchies Web Awards had their big bash tonight were all kinds of web companies vied for the chance to label themselves the newest TechCrunch darlings; not to mention that it was just another excuse for a party.

It probably wasn’t a surprise to anyone in attendance that Facebook was the winner of the Best Overall category; but that in the winner announcement post on TechCrunch they proclaimed that Facebook was the winner because it

revolutionized the idea of what social networking could be.

Oh please .. don’t make me gag. The idea of using Facebook and revolutionary in the same sentence is nothing short of incredulous. Facebook is nothing more than a revamped version of things like AOL, CompuServe or Prodigy that has managed to get itself over valuated so that Zuckerberg and the VC can walk away with a piss pot full of money. Just because you tack on the Web 2.0 tag to a pig doesn’t make the pig anything more than what it is - an overpriced pig.
